Legislative / Socioeconomic Committee
Purpose: To develop, contest, monitor, and implement legislative policy at the local, state, and national level that fosters and maintains high standards of medical practice in the community and promotes the best interest of the patient and public health. Links with the TMA’s Council on Legislation, Division of Medical Economics - Governmental Affairs, and Division of Public Affairs (includes Legislative Affairs and Political Education.)
• facilitates news and information regarding critical legislation or political action affecting the practice of medicine
• reviews local, state and national legislation pertaining to the practice of medicine
• reviews, comments, initiates, and develops positions on various pieces of legislation for review and discussion
• cooperates with the corresponding AMA and TMA Councils and Committee on legislative matters
The Chairman is appointed by the President. All other members of the committee are selected by the President based upon time, interest, and commitment.
Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM.

The required attendance commitment for committee participation is 50%. Volunteers are asked to commit to the attendance (participation) requirement of a minimum of six meetings of this committee during the year.
