Hurricane Preparedness News from the Texas Governor's Office

The Bexar County Medical Society participates with other San Antonio medical and emergency organizations to keep Bexar County prepared for the unexpected. Participating with the Regional Emergency Medical Preparedness Steering Committee (REMPSC), BCMS has linked itself with all the medical and emergency organizations throughout the entire greater San Antonio area.

The purpose of REMPSC is to keep San Antonio prepared for medical emergencies and disasters of all kinds. Following the terrorist attack of 9/11, the community pulled itself together through REMPSC to prepare for similar such events or any event that require a quick yet massive medical response to protect the citizens of the county. The mission statement of REMPSC is:

“The evolving role of REMPSC is the forum where the senior decision makers of the region’s health care stakeholder organizations act on the initiatives of the various workgroups through coordination, communication, education and funding. The representation of REMPSC is inclusive of metro and non-metro health care organizations throughout the region. In addition, this committee coordinates the support of the medical planning needs of the region.”

With the help of REMPSC, BCMS has developed an identification system for physicians in Bexar County. These identification badges are uniform for all physicians are used for entrance into all hospitals on a daily basis as well as in the case of a medical emergency. This will help ensure the maximum medical response in times of need.

Volunteer for BCMS/TMA Physician’s Rapid Response Team

TMA Physician’s Rapid Response Team is a Web-based, emergency response system intended to ensure an effective response from Texas physicians in times of a disaster or evacuation. During Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005,  TMA physicians overwhelming heeded the call for physician volunteers and provided much needed medical care to evacuees throughout Texas. This new registration system provides an opportunity for our members to sign up to volunteer prior to a disaster. Click here to sign up. NOTE: You will need your TMA member username and ID.
