Thank you for your interest in organized medicine!

Why become a member of Bexar County Medical Society? In short, because the Society helps improve your bottom line and protect the practice of medicine. Working to keep the practice of medicine financially viable, we provide outstanding advocacy, professional support, and leadership development – but we can’t do it without your help.

We encourage your participation and your suggestions to help our Society enrich the lives of all physicians in Bexar County and to help them better serve the residents in their care.

The Society defends the case of organized medicine for you at every level – county, state, and national. Tort reform, prompt pay, workers compensation, and primary care case management are just a few of the issues the Society addresses.

Among the other advantages made possible through your membership (regular, military, resident, or student) are:

No-cost benefits – Physician referral service, annual pictorial membership directory, subscription to San Antonio Medicine magazine, free access to UTHSCSA library, medical classified ads on the BCMS web site (www.bcms.org), issue-focused committees, peer support, mediation, seminars, practice management resources, and more.

Bexar County Medical Society is working diligently to serve our members’ needs. In addition to providing outstanding advocacy, professional support, and leadership development, BCMS is focusing on the physician as a whole person and will continue to add new services to meet the personal and professional issues faced by physicians. As always, we welcome your participation and suggestions to help our Society enrich the lives of all physicians in Bexar County.

The Bexar County Medical Society was established simultaneously with the Texas Medical Association, in 1853. It is the oldest county medical society in Texas. As a pioneer of organized medicine, it has played a vital role in the ongoing development of San Antonio's medical community. Over the years, it has endeavored to serve the needs of its membership while addressing what is in the best interests of physician’s patients and the general public. It has become the eighth largest county medical society in the nation, serving 4,000+ members.

The Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association take proactive roles in representing physicians and patients. Members are given the opportunity to voice their ideas and opinions. We hope you will consider joining your colleagues, in becoming a member of the Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association.
