TMA stands firm in opposition to audiologists' scope proposed legislation

By Mary E. Nava, MBA

Chief Governmental and Community Relations Officer

Recently, TMA joined with more than 110 national organizations, along with state and local medical associations and specialty societies, to address Congress in a letter vehemently opposing H.R. 5304, the Audiology Patient Choice Act of 2014, which would provide audiologists with unlimited, direct access to Medicare patients without a physician referral.

Equally troubling is that the proposed legislation also would amend Title XVIII of the Social Security Act to include audiologists in the definition of "physician."
