RELIEF FUND

Dear BCMS Members:

As you likely know our friends in Kumamoto, Japan suffered through two serious earthquakes in April causing extensive damage to the city of Kumamoto, including collapsing part of the sloped retaining wall at Kumamoto castle.  This is the first time the castle has suffered any earthquake damage in 400 years.   Small towns just outside of Kumamoto city where the earthquakes were centered suffered very extensive damage with many houses destroyed.  BCMS has had a sister medical society relationship with Kumamoto since 1992 so we have made many friends in Kumamoto throughout the years.

Fortunately, our friends in the Kumamoto City Medical Association and on the staff of the city government of Kumamoto City were not injured or killed, though several had their homes and clinics damaged and were forced to relocate until repairs could be made.  There are shortages of drinking water in the community.  I feel an obligation to my friends to offer some financial assistance in their time of need and have arranged for a fund to be collected at the BCMS office for anyone who wishes to donate.  All donations are 100% tax deductible.  The funds will be gathered and wired to the Kumamoto City Medical Association on May 24th to be forwarded to the most appropriate agency there.  I appreciate any contributions to this fund as I know our friends in Japan will.

Thank you for your consideration. I will be happy to answer any questions about this and can be contacted at 210-250-1481.

Please send any donations in care of BCMS at 4334 N Loop 1604 West, Suite 200, San Antonio, TX 78249.

Sincerely,

Jim Humphreys, MD
