Over 34 million Americans have diabetes, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Over 88 million adults in the United States have prediabetes. The City of San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department has assembled the Diabetes Prevention & Control Program to fight diabetes. Click here to find more information about this program. 

Health Advisory Update - Outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease in Central Uganda
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory about a recently confirmed outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in Uganda caused by Sudan virus to summarize CDC’s recommendations for U.S. public health departments and clinicians, case identification and testing, and clinical laboratory biosafety considerations. Continue reading

Texas Department of State Health Services, Who Should Get the Flu Shot?
The flu vaccine is especially important for people with chronic health conditions and those who have a high risk of developing complications from the flu. The CDC recommends that everyone six months of age and older get the flu vaccine every season. TMA Frequently Asked Questions on Texas "Gold-Carding” Preauthorization Exemption Law and Rules
Under TDI rules a “gold card” or “preauthorization exemption” is “a privilege obtained in which a physician or provider is not subject to a preauthorization requirement that otherwise applies with respect to a particular health care service. The preauthorization exemption applies both to care rendered by a treating physician or provider and to care ordered by a physician or provider who is acting in his or her capacity as a treating physician or provider.” Continue reading

Wellness First: TMA Recommits to Physicians' Well-being
During the Texas Medical Association’s Fall Conference on September 17, which was also National Physician Suicide Awareness Day, Physicians shared their experiences with burnout, moral injury and other stressors. That same day, The Texas Medical Association launched Wellness First, the latest iteration of its physician health and wellness program. Read more
