Health Advisory on TPOXX Treatment for Monkeypox
As of July 28, 2022, 231 cases of monkeypox have been identified in Texas and 4,639 cases have been identified in the United States. If clinicians suspect monkeypox, strictly adhere to infection prevention and control practices and collect specimens for testing. Tecovirimat (TPOXX) is an antiviral medication that is approved by the FDA to treat smallpox and can be used to treat monkeypox under CDC’s expanded access investigational new drug (EA-IND) protocol. CDC Authorizes Novavax Adult COVID Vaccine
There’s now a fourth COVID-19 vaccine option available in the U.S. after the federal government gave emergency use authorization to the Novavax vaccine for adults. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) called the Novavax shot “an important tool in the pandemic” that “provides a more familiar type of COVID-19 vaccine technology for adults.” Read more here

CDC COVID-19 Report: Impact on Antimicrobial Resistance
The U.S. lost progress combating antimicrobial resistance in 2020 due, in large part, to effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recent investigations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) concluded that the threat of antimicrobial-resistant infections is not only still present but has gotten worse. View report

House Reps Ask HHS to Clarify Critical Access Hospital Payment Rule
Reinstating the 96-hour payment rule for critical access hospitals would require the facilities to discharge or transfer patients after 96 hours to receive reimbursement. A bipartisan group of 25 House members has asked HHS to clarify its plans regarding the enforcement of Medicare’s 96-hour payment rule for critical access hospitals (CAHs) following the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE).
