The Texas Department of State Services (DSHS) is reporting an outbreak of measles in the South Plains and Panhandle regions of Texas. At this time, 422 cases have been identified since late January. CMS Issues New MIPS Hardship for IV Fluid Shortage, Extends Data Submission Period
The 15-day window for the hardship exemption is open March 31, through April 14 at 7 pm CT, and comes in response to medicine's advocacy. The data submission period was similarly extended to April 14 for physicians unaffected by the shortages. Read more.
Five States Have Active Measles Outbreaks as Texas Reaches 400 Cases
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has reported that the US has more measles cases this year than in all of 2024. At least five states have reported cases, with Texas having the most at over 400 reported. Other states with outbreaks - defined as three or more cases - include New Mexico, Kansas, Ohio, and Oklahoma. The World Health Organization also reported cases in Mexico are linked to the Texas outbreak. Learn more.
